The Duck King Restaurant @ Jaya One

Went to this reataurant called Duck King on Wednesday. Because Waihoong and Sue heard a good review from David, saying that is damn good.

After some googling, found out that The Duck King is actually already quite popular in Indonesia, and only around 3-4 months ago, it flew to Malaysia. And the only one around now is at Jaya One. So there we go at night to Jaya One.

The resraurant is located at the corner, opposite Secret Recipe. Once you open the door, the nice smell of duck meat is just nicely flowing inside the restaurant. Smells good.

This is the logo on the menu. Gives me a feeling that the duck is giving a middle finger.

They actually sell their menu for RM1,500.

The paper quality is very nice and thick, the imagery also not bad. But RM1,500…

This is what David recommended to Waihoong also. Deep-Fried Durian Pancake!

Siewmei joining us for the dinner.

Waihoong can’t wait till the dessert comes.

The Duck King’s Chopstix.

Sue-ann and Brian came a little while later after they finished their work.

Suddenly, a scent of durian flew-by from another table, and Sue-ann’s sensitive nose couldn’t take it. Haha… she don’t like durian at all. (Siewmei is just acting there… hahaha…)

So here comes the food, this is 北京鴨. Looks good, but i couldn’t really taste the duck. Although is only the crispy duck skin inside, but there should be some taste of the duck right? All i can taste in this dish is the sweet souce. Because this is my first time eating Peking duck, so i don’t really know if this is the true taste of Peking Duck dish.

This is the meat of the duck from the dish above. X.O. 醬炒鴨片. Again with the same problem as the dish above. All i can taste is the X.O. souce and a little spicy meat. The meat itself is tender, but you kinda don’t know what meat you’re eating. Dissapointing duck dishes from The Duck King.

This is the 芙蓉蟹扒自制豆腐. Homemade Tofu, nice.

This vege dish is for those who don’t like vege. It’s called the 香港芥兰二味. 2 different ways of cooking the same vege. One side is the normal one, and another side is deep fried. Very crispy and tasty.

惠洲梅菜花腩煲. Very nice also, the pork is very soft.

There are 3 types of rice here, the white rice, and this is the 海南油飯.

And this is the 3rd type, 頭抽豬油撈飯. Using pork fat to mix with the rice. Very porky, not for those who don’t like the strong pork smell.

After we finished eating while waiting for our dessert. Sue and Brian – Satisfied.

Siewmei with her crooked peace sign.

Trying to imitate the crooked peace sign. haha…

The dessert is here. 楊枝甘露. Mango dew with sago and pamelo.

This is the one Waihoong and me is waiting for. 酥炸果中之皇.

Can you see the durian filling inside… so soft… very nice dish for those who likes durian.

Sue-ann took a small bite, and almost finished the tea from the pot… hahaha…

Overall the food is great, except for the duck, which is very weird from a restaurant that is expert in duck. I think i’ll come back and order some other duck dishes to see if it’s that bad or it’s actually very good.

Never eat in tis restaurant! I specifically ordered beforehand that morning & was charged a “Peking Duck” but was given a cold roasted duck skin, CURLY & SOFT not a single piece crispy. Damn! Meat so little lost in a huge plate of noodle, SERVED FIRST! I’ve to chase for the skin & the captain’s reply was “wasn’t WARM enough YET!” Since when on earth Peking Duck was served this way! Your guess is right, kena con!!! We asked if the prawns were fresh, the reply was guaranteed but the servings came in steamed stale & tasteless. The miserable bamboo fish was horrific; we’ve guests therefore shy away from making a scene. For the rest of the food your guess is as good as mine. Serve them right if they may close down sooner, as there seemed to have more “docs than patients” that weekend night and the previous disappointed visits some months back. Duck King is not like when they’re new I recommended to friends and my usual “Tong sing pan”. They don’t deserve to be forgiven, not a chance. I paid nearly RM600 for that dinner (mind you no abalone nor shark’s fins, just normal dishes)and the free roasted duck for the next visit shall expire 15DEC10. Feel like taking that free duck and stuff into the boss asshole. Whole bunch of hopeless con artists, shame to the food industry; help them close earlier.

There is so much of todays blueprint that is overabundance impractical and waistful and I could give you way over a thousand examples within contemporaneous companionship so your point about it being down to earth is really disputable. If it comunicates to the audience and they retain the card with a recollections regarding the designs footprint then yes, it is practical and it has a longer shelf life.
