On February 1st, a public holiday Monday, Andrew, Siewmei, and me, went on a small photography trip to Morib, Gold Coast. Our last visit to Tanjung Sepat we totally missed the place. So this small trip is kinda consider a filler to the place.

Basically, there’s really nothing much there, or we didn’t do our research before going there. What’s there we saw was beaches, empty beaches, long stretch of empty beaches. Not to say it’s not nice la, but just a little too plain.

We first reached this place call Gold Coast Bagan Lalang. What they’re building here is something like what you saw in Dubai, the palm-tree-formationed chalet. The resort is call Golden Palm Tree Water Villas.

Can’t really see the shape of the formation when we’re at the same level as the resort. But the empty beach + the resort view is quite nice.

Waveless beach. If you really wanna see the wave, you’ll have to walk damn far out.

Was very hot. Luckily we got umbrella to avoid the burn.

Liking the reflections.

A lake located opposite the beach.

Everybody loves lalang.

It was 11:04am based on Siewmei’s shadow.

Another side of the Golden Palm Tree Water Villas.

Casually shooting as we walk.

A resort next to the water villas.

Garden chair in the hot afternoon sun. Anybody wanna grill your butt?

A hut with pretty roof.

Arc made out of bamboos. How can not shoot? Hehe.

Cannot step on the grass.

Siewmei resting under a pondok. Was too cooling to continue back out.

At the entrance of the Resort, there’s some Chinese New Year decoration. The photo looks so Chinese New Year feel!

I guess this boat was parked here when the tide is high.

Baywatch tower.

Group photo time!

Siewmei walking along the beach stretch, there are a lot of monkeys around that area.

Walked out to see if there’s something to shoot.

Reflections again~

You would think one crab is following the other one, but crab walks sideways la! They’re just both going to the same place.

A shell with a slightly bigger crab hidden inside. Waited so long for it to come out.

Still not coming out lor.

Looks at the holes on the beach. They’re all crab holes.

Oasis.

After some beach walking, it was around 2pm already. So we went back to Tanjung Sepat and back to the same restaurant we had our lunch the last time.

Ordered the same food.

Ah Mei Mian Fen Gao. Customizable noodles.

After the lunch, how can we don’t go to the Pao shop and enjoy the famous Pao of Tanjung Sepat. This is my favourite, the peanuts Pao.

Hai Yew Heng, 海友興, people come from around Malaysia to enjoy their specialty here.

That concluded this small photography trip. A casual and relaxing one. Next time you thinking of going to the beach, Morib is another choice for you, no need go all the way to Port Dickson.

Sorry for leaving the blog un-updated for so long. Been really busy lately with work. But still manage to squeeze out some time to do some local travelling. 3 weeks ago, Andrew, Siewmei, Kokwai, Eddy, Sherinna, and me went up to Ipoh to do some shooting and eating. Had some very nice food from there. Guess I don’t need to intro the food from Ipoh anymore since there are like tonnes of information online already. Not gonna write much. Here are the photos. Enjoy.

Went to Kek-Lok Cave after breakfast on the Saturday morning.

Some weird sculpture displayed at the entrance of the cave.

Main entrance to the cave.

The very cool thing about this cave is that this is on the other side! It’s really like in some Wu Xia novel.

Very nice wall of the rock mountain.

A place for people to walk and scream in pain.

Very nice weather that day.

Spot Siewmei and Andrew.

Siewmei with her very red hair. Nice~

After some walking we went to Andrew parent’s coffee shop. Kokwai here trying to show us how to make coffee.

A cup of coffee outside the shop under the sun.

Curry mee was close due to Deepavali.

Opposite the coffee shop is this field, and Andrew’s dad fed some noodles to the pigeons. Eddy here trying to get a good shot of the pigeons up close. Sacrificing his image. Haha.

A lot of pigeons came and fed on the noodles.

After the stop, we continue out shooting in a more secluded place call Papan (Wood) located further from Ipoh town.

A lot of abandoned houses can be found there.

Dogs were checking us out and we were checking the dogs out.

Old-skool yo! An aunty barber in action. A few uncles were queuing waiting for their turn.

Went for a trip to Yogyakarta with Siewmei, Yenc, Jook, Shyng, and Hamyu on the 4th of July. It was a 4 days 3 nights trip with minimum planning. But it was a fun, relax, and filling (stomach wise) trip for all of us. Reached Yogya about 6 something in the evening, our Guest House’s pickup already waiting for us at the airport after we done all the scanning and spraying for prevention of H1N1 Flu. So we head straight to our Guest House. The distance from airport to our Guest house was around 30 to 40 minutes. The sky turn dark very early there at Yogya, so we were already planning what to eat during our ride to the Guest House. Finally we decided to walk around and we found a nice little restaurant that serve indonesian food to eat. After the dinner, we chill around our Guest House, and went to sleep early cos we need to wake up pretty early the next day to catch the sunrise at Borobudur.

Like I said about the sun going down very early in the day, it also rises very early in the morning. We woke up 4am in the morning, prepared ourselves and took our ride to Bodobudur at 5am. All of us were thinking that we can catch a nice sunrise of the sacred Borobudur, but we think too soon. While we’re on our way there, we already saw light coming out at the horizon. Kinda disappointed, but can’t do anything. On our way there, we passed by the outskirt of Yogyakarta, what we saw impressed us. Although it was very early in the morning, but the streets were not quiet at all, we saw a lot of people actually jogging and having their exercise along the way to Borobudur. From old aunties to young boys and girls, they group together and jog their way to a healthy lifestyle.

Reached Borobudur at 6 something in the morning, and you can see that it’s already quite bright. Hamyu pulling a *nyan nyan* in the morning.

Went up the “Stairs of Morning Exercise For the City People” and this… this is what you’ll see. An amazingly big and detailed temple of Borobudur getting its morning shower of sun rays.

From the top you can actually see quite far down since there isn’t much high objects surrounding the temple.

A stone marking the “officiality” of this sacred temple in this modern world.

A foreigner helped us take this picture in order for me to help them take theirs.

The sky is always blue in Yogya.

After our trip to Borobudur, Shyng requested we go to this silver crafting factory near to the temple. So we stopped by and have a look, since Yogya is kinda famous for their silver.

A silver crafter making some silver stuffs. His professionalism can be seen from his smoothly gel-ed hair.

Seems like this silver crafting factory can attract some foreigners too.

After the factory, we head to our next destination, Prambanan, one of the largest Hindu temple in South-East Asia. The distance from Borobudur to here was not a problem to us, because all of us were sleeping in the van. Hehe…

Reconstruction works are actually under way here. A lof of the smaller shrines as you can see from the photo collapsed due to an earthquake in 2006. So this is what’s left now.

From color to black and white? I don’t get it.

Photo time~

One of the still standing smaller shrine.

Very hot in the afternoon but still there are a lot of people. There are also a lot of locals picnicing outside the compound of the temple under trees.

Fallen shrines… what a pity.

Another photo in front of one of the big ones.

Hopefully all the shrines that are still standing will remain standing for millennia to come.

Tall and pointy compare to Candi Borobudur.

Very cute “fence”.

Going in to one of the shrine.

We spotted one of the local kid visiting the temple. Damn cute with the “tudung” shading him from the sun.

Siewmei posing in one of the still standing wall of one of the shrine.

Cute or not?!

Some colour green to spice up the overall look and feel.

As you can see, the reconstruction is on-going.

We spotted an smaller shrine with nobody there. So took the opportunities and took some photos.

Put my camera on the rock pile opposite the shrine to take this shot.

After walking around seeing the Candi Prambanan, we started walking around the outer compound and spotted this guy.

Horses are very common thing in Yogyakarta.

Siewmei posing with the pony.

Another view of a road leading to the temple. It’s freaking huge!

After we got amazed by the temple of Prambanan, we still got some time left before our driver’s time is up, so on the way back, we asked him to suggest a place to visit for us. He brought us to this Museum of Yogyakarta. Stories of how Yogyakarta got to become like this is told here.

Jook spotted this sun scene outside of the museum.

Weapon to protect. Jook being patriotic protecting Yogyakarta… eh?

This is the museum building itself.

What’s inside the top floor of the building is this. A flag on a pole and a hole from the top letting in sunlight while there are some carving on the wall showing don’t know what.

After a whole day of walking and shooting, we’re back to our temporary crib. Rumah Palagan Guest House. A quiet and cozy place to stay.

After the reception, this is the path leading to our rooms.

Corridor in front of the rooms.

Some decor at the reception area… old-skool~

This is the pool we chill in. Nice?

So this is the end of part 1 of my trip to Yogyakarta. The next part will be the visit to Yogyakarta town itself. More blue skies next entry.

On the 11th of April we went to this small town call Tanjung Sepat. It’s located near Banting, Sepang, and Morib. The little town was famous for it’s seafoods and Lover’s Bridge. Based on further findings on the internet, apparently there are more to the town. Based on our itinerary, we explored Tanjung Sepat. Hopefully you’ll like the photos.

There are 14 of us, Dom, Andrew, Siewmei, Yanny, Kokwai, Benchin, Ah Fai, Kokwai’s friend A, Sherinna, Behn and Eddy. Aivy and Aivy’s friend A came later in the trip. We gathered ourselves at Subang 7am in the morning and depart, based on the directions we gathered here and there on how to go to Tanjung Sepat.

The must see when you visit Tanjung Sepat.

Why gathered so early to go Tanjung Sepat? Because of the Bak Kut Teh breakfast there.

Next to the restaurant, there’s this old Mahjong joint. Must be one of the popular places among elderly uncles.

Dom, first time joining us for a photography trip.

This, is the normal Bak Kut Teh.

What is this? I also not very sure. White Bak Kut Teh?

First time seeing this one. Har (prawn) Kut Teh? Hahaha.

The town of Tanjung Sepat. Having their weekly pasar pagi.

Entrance of the Lover’s Bridge. I think this is setup by the shop keeper next to the bridge to make the place look nicer.

By 11am, we’ve reached the Lover’s Bridge day time edition. Which you can see, a lot of beaches and you can go down and walk walk and take pictures of the trees.

After the cement 1st half of the bridge, there’s the more old-skool wooden continuation.

Proof of visiting for Siewmei.

After a hot walked on the bridge, we venture under the bridge. It is amazingly cooling under the bridge.

While we’re on the way to the land of mushroom, we stopped here and took some pictures. This is where they pimp their ride i think.

After a very short distant, we’ve reached the farm where they grow mushrooms. This, is red mushroom.

This, is what you put in your steamboat.

This my friend, based on Jook’s search on Wiki, it’s call the Mushroom of Imortality.

After the Mushroom Farm, is about time for our lunch. So we went to this place call Ah Mei’s restaurant. It’s said that they have seafood Maggi noodles.

It’s true! Maggi with assorted stuffs you can add such as fishballs, foo jook, vege and other stuffs la. Not really seafood seafood, but you get the point la.

While waiting for our food, Siewmei playing with Eddy’s Rolleiflex.

After having the Pau for tea time, we walked to the next lane and there’s the coffee making place. From the coffee fruit, to drying it, grinding it, and into coffee powder.

After some lepaking in the town and some rain later. We went back to the Lover’s Bridge to wait for dinner. As you can see now, there’s no more beach for us to walk.

Before we head back, we had our dinner at Hong Seng Bay Seafood Restaurant. The food there was good and the pricing was affordable. There are photos of the dishes, but there’s just too many photos in this entry already. Keke.

Everyone was tired, but we had fun that day. Where will be the next kampung we visit?

Because it was a join birthday party, a lot of people showed up, some for Yippie and some for Weiyee. But most of them know each others. And because a lot of people showed up, there’s a lot of pictures taken. Filtered a lot of pictures and ended up with all these to blog.

On the 23rd of January, my gang organized a dinner at Bubba Gump Shrimp, The Curve, because Weiyee and Alex came back from Beijing for Chinese New Year holidays. So the dinner is to “wash dust” (chinese saying) with both of them.

Want to apologize to Waihoong because we set the dinner at 8pm, but we reached there around 9pm. So Waihoong waited there for an hour, alone. Hehe. Ooops.

Waihoong with his pissed face. His eyes are like questioning us why are we not punctual. Hehe. Jam la dude.

Siewmei posing with the menu while thinking of what to eat.

The place is filled with stuffs from the movie Forrest Gump.

We were seated next to the staircase. Behind us is a big poster of one scene from the movie.

Unique decorations but the seat we were seated was not so comfortable, a bit too tight.

Started, the onion rings.

To my right, the staircase.

Don’t know what is this called. But look delicious and tasted quite ok too.

Shrimps.

And more shrimps.

Sue-ann and Brian arrived. Sue was sick and Brian have to go all the way to Cheras to pick her up. That’s why they’re late.

Weiyee came after them, with a new hairstyle! We were all quite shock. Hehe.

Alex, the last to arrive.

Must take photos for memories la.

People from Beijing, China. Hehe.

Alex didn’t change much throughout the year.

Dessert menu was placed on a ping pong bat. Why? Because in the movie, Forrest Gump was very good in playing Ping Pong.

Took a photo of Weiyee in another room on the same floor. I think the decor is based on Forrest Gump’s house in the movie.

After we finished the meal, Siewmei helped us took a group photo. Thanks Siewmei. Sue look really sick in the picture.

This my first time eating at Bubba Gump Shrimp. The ambience and the feel are nice. The food consider quite ok also. The pricing is around the same as Chili’s and TGIF. You can go try try if you feel like eating prawns, I mean shrimps.

Went to this newly opened restaurant call Canton-i at The Gardens, Mid Valley yesterday. As you can see from the name, it is related to Dragon-i. It is located at the lower ground floor at The Gardens, near another chinese restaurant Din Tai Fung. The food they sell are mainly chinese stlye barbeque stuffs, such as Char Siew, Siew Yuk, Duck and Goose. Haven’t got the chance to try the barbeque goose there cos it was finished by the time we got there.

Business seems to be very good there, because i went passed the restaurant a few times and there’s always people lining up.

Took this shot after we ate. That’s why you don’t see people lining up. Cos it’s late.

The interior of Canton-i is very nice, combination of beige, white, and pink, made a very comfortable place to have ur meal. As you can see, there’s a lot of people.

There’s 2 sections here, this one is the left section, the picture before this is the right section.

Decorated with items that are very chinese such as these bird cages.

Very nice semi round seating, but don’t think can fit many people in.

SiewMei holding our number ticket posing, while waiting for our seats.

Syam and Yippie queueing up. Look at the line behind then, long~

A rare person to join us eat, because SiewMei came to find us for dinner. Have to “bay min” a bit.

Me and Jook waiting for our food. (Jook acting like Yippie)

Actually Syam is also another person who’s rarely join us for dinner. Again because of SiewMei’s visit, and i forced her to come along. Hahaha.

Yippie and SiewMei waiting for food.

Hamyu showing his reluctant face to take picture with Yippie.

Look at how happy he is here. Haha.

As usual, drinks arrived first.

Each of us ordered the plain wantan noodles, then we ordered dishes to share. This is the Siew Yuk. A bit too fat, but the skin is crunchy. Yum~

Char Siew. Not as good as Shah Alam or Sunway Mas’ Char Siew, but still consider not bad.

Yao Mark. Haha, don’t know how to say this in English.

Very big and nice wantan. Got a whole prawn inside. Very Q.

Half a duck here. Consider not bad also.

After meal chit chat.

Hamyu with the gals. Hamyu belanja us this round. I think it’s because we bought birthday present for him on his birthday just passed not long ago. Still… thanks Hamyu.

The price of the food here is slighly above average, but the quality consider ok. So, worth going to try out.

Reach here around 4pm. Had a loyalty card which is fully stamped (10 stamps), redeemed a cup of free ice-blended mocha, and this plate of warm and sweet cookies.

Like it here a lot, since there’s not many people, the ambient here is nice, and my experience here before. The staffs here are nice & friendly, and they’re getting more familiar with my face. Bet they’re wondering who’s this guy and what he do. Or maybe for them, I’m just another regular customer, which they have no intention of more understanding.

Woke up early today, drove to Taman Desa to look for Andrew. From there, he drove us to Berjaya Times Square for the KL Photography Festival. Dom went there by himself and met us there.

Actually I wanted to go there to see if there’s any good deal on the camera I wanted to buy. A lot of photographers and speakers giving talks on their experiences in photography. Didn’t stay long though as there’s not many booths there for us to check out.

Had lunch there at GASOLINE in Times Square with both Andrew and Dom. Not a very good experience. This is my first time going to GASOLINE to eat. I think we’re not the target audience, because almost everyone in the restaurant is very young, as I would say, kids, even the waiters and waitresses.

So, the manners of those kids working there are really bad, I think they’ve not been trained on how to serve customers. 2 young girls at the bar there was making so much noise, shouting (that’s the way they talk) to each others. And once in a while, they swear, yup, they swear in front of all the customers. Me and Dom looked at each other speechless. The table was not wiped clean, very sticky. Those utensils that they gave us, was still wet, OMFG, gross.

The food, I ordered the Kam Heong Fried Rice. I was shocked that the food that I ordered looks like that (refer to the picture below, that was how it’s served, I didn’t touch it yet), and the plate was also still wet with my rice on top.

The lucky thing was that Andrew’s and Dom’s food were still OK. To be fair, the taste of the food was still OK. But then again with the hygiene of those utensils and plates like that, I wouldn’t be shocked if you get Diarrhea from the food there.

That’s it, tried once, never gonna go back there again.

Sooner or later I know that I’m gonna blog about this place. This my friends, is my all time favourite claypot chicken rice. Located at USJ 4, New Apollo Restaurant’s (新阿波羅茶餐室) Choi Gey Claypot Chicken Rice (財記瓦煲雞飯) uses charcoal to cook the rice inside the claypots.

The stall is run by an old couple (at least I think they are). They take turn to do the cooking. I heard a friend of mine said that one of them don’t cook as well as the other, I’m not too sure about that, I think they’re both good.

Before I started to love the claypot chicken rice here, I don’t actually eat those chopped small chilis. I don’t know what happened, one day, I actually tried the chopped chilis with the rice. OMG, what an amazing discovery. So since that time, I don’t eat this claypot chicken rice without it.

The price of of the Claypot Chicken Rice here is quite reasonable. RM5, you’ll get a small one, which i think is almost enough for 2 persons. A big one costs RM8.50, which i think can feed 3 to 4 persons.

They also sell the Yellow Wine Chicken, which i never tried before, maybe next time can ordered and see if it’s as good as the chicken rice.

If you’re interested and need directions to this place, please contact me. Hehe.
